Calvin Claud Isner, 94, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Monday morning, Jan. 8, 2024, at Elkins Regional Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins.
He was born Sunday, May 12, 1929, at Elkins, a son of the late Glenn Calvin and Mabel Delaine Canfield Isner.
On June 12, 1953, he was married to the former Fredonia Mae Workman, who preceded him in death April 16, 2010.
Surviving are one son, Timothy Lee Isner of Elkins, West Virginia; three daughters, Vickie Sue Isner of Elkins, Paula Kaye Schollaert and husband, Mark, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brenda Gail Cunningham and husband, Randy, of Elkins; one sister, Margaret Alice Meadows; six grandchildren, Rachel, Renato, Melissa, Todd, David and Natalie; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Marcus, Lucus, Caleb, Eliana, Lincoln, Joel and Judah.
Preceding him in death is one sister, Glenna Jean Caplinger Shurtheff.
He attended the schools of Randolph County and the Elkins High Trade School. Mr. Isner served in the Army National Guard from 1950 to 1953. In 1953, he entered the United States Army and served till 1955, going in as a corporal and coming out as a sergeant.
Mr. Isner was an employee of the Randolph County Board of Education. He was a teacher for 12 years at the Randolph County Vo Tech and an employee of Davis Electric, working as an electrician for 29 years. He was a member of the Elkins Nazarene Church for 59 years.
He had worked every day to clear the land and help build the Nazarene Church and the Family Life Center in Gilman. Mr. Isner was very active in all events and activities at the church. He was a loving and caring father and papaw, who will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. On Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2024, Mr. Isner will be moved to the Elkins Nazarene Church on Parsons Road where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Pastor Tim Turner and Pastor Mark Schollaert will officiate and interment will follow at Mt. State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the West Virginia Army Honor Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign War will conduct full military honors.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Nazarene Church, Building Fund, 219 South, Parsons Road, Elkins, WV.
