Frances R. "Frankie" Riemenschneider, 95, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center in Elkins.
She was born Nov. 24, 1928, at Moorefield, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Brown Sherman and Estie Getz Halterman. On March 2, 1963 in Moorefield, WV she was married to Edward G. "Ed" Riemenschneider, who preceded her in death March 12, 2018.
Surviving is one daughter, Gretchen Price and husband, Jerry, of Elkins; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Riemenschneider of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; one sister, Beverly Baughman, Clearwater, Florida; three grandchildren, Sarah F. Shirk, Kent, Ohio, Amalia H. Shirk, Jupiter, Florida, and Olivia R. Riemenschneider of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; one great-grandchild, Amari Mathis of Jupiter, Florida; and one sister-in-law, Barbara (Riemenschneider) Manrique and husband, Carlos, of Spring Hill, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was one son, Edward G. "Eddie" Riemenschneider Jr.; three sisters, Pauline Fitez, Margaret Loughrie and Betty Hott; and three brothers, Louis, John and Junior Halterman. Frankie was a wonderful mother and would do anything for her family and friends. She was formerly active in the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, and served as a Candy Striper at Memorial General Hospital, where she volunteered many hours to those in need. She loved spending time on the Outer Banks, including yearly vacations with the Shields' family, and loved to fish with her husband of 55 years, pulling in crab pots and shrimp nets from their Boston Whaler when they lived in Manteo, North Carolina. Her home was her castle and she loved to cook, bake and host fish fries of their daily catch for family and friends as well. Frankie will always be remembered for her kind heart, quick wit, her outgoing personality and tremendous generosity.
She remained close with her best friend of over 60 years, Marg Shields of Elkins, up until the very end. Frankie's request for cremation has been honored.
A joint service of remembrance for Frankie and her son, Eddie, will be announced later in the year. Memorial contributions may be made to Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 Randolph Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Frankie.
