Marylou Akers Raikes, 88, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life late Saturday evening, Jan. 13, 2024, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living at Elkins, West Virginia, under the care of WV Caring.
She was born Saturday, Jan. 11, 1936, at Long Branch, Fayette County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Maggie Akers.
On Aug. 10, 1963, at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church at Baltimore, Maryland, she was married to Merrill Claude "Jack" Raikes Jr., who preceded her in death March 8, 2003.
Surviving are cousins, Michael Lively and wife, Vickie, of Scott Depot, and Toni Lynn Kourey and husband, Richard, of Waxhaw, North Carolina; one stepson, Merrill Raikes III and wife, Connie, of Massachusetts; one granddaughter, Jane Raikes and husband, Dan Markewitz, of Georgia; and one great- grandson, Ethan Markewitz.
She was a graduate of Pax High School, and retired from Verizon in 1988 after 31 years of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins and enjoyed reading.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at 1 p.m.
The Rev. Brian Seders will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery.
