Patricia Sue ‘Patty’ (Shahan) Canfield

Mrs. Patricia Sue "Patty" (Shahan) Canfield, 81, a resident of Belington and more recently of the Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation Facility, departed this life early Saturday morning, Jan. 27, 2024, in the care facility. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born Oct. 21, 1942, a daughter of the late Chester and Ruth (Delauder) Shahan.

On July 13, 1961, she was united in marriage to Elwood Lee Canfield, who preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2017.

Left to cherish her memory are one son, Elwood "Eric" Canfield and wife, Penny, of Philippi; and one daughter, Shirley Nestor and husband, Marvin, of St. George; three brothers, Frank Shahan, Ronald Shahan and wife, Linda, and Larry Shahan and wife, Connie, all of Belington; and one sister, Donna Jean Taylor of Jimtown, West Virginia.

Also surviving are two grandchildren, Brock and Karsen Canfield.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers,: Lee Shahan, Troy Shahan, Gene Shahan and Waldo Shahan; and five sisters, Lucille Mae Johnson, Wanda Compton, Shirley Shahan and Dorothy Tincher and infant sister, Rochella Shahan.

Mrs. Canfield attended the Schools of Barbour County and was a graduate from the Belington High School in the class of 1961.

She was a Southern Baptist by faith and formerly attended the Southern Baptist Church in Belington.

Patty was employed with the Belington Emergency Squad for over 38 years, prior to that she worked for Clyde Koontz Pharmacy in Belington and various restaurants in the area.

She loved to visit friends and family and enjoyed working puzzles.

She had a great love for her family and community and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg St. in Belington, on Tuesday Jan. 30, 2024, from 5 to 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, from 8 a.m. till 11 a.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Lay Speaker Brad Dumire officiating.

Interment will then follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contribution be made to the Belington Emergency Squad Po. Box 922 Belington, WV 26250.
