Mr. Ralph C. Baumgardner, 83, a resident of Belington, departed this life Friday Jan. 12, 2024, at his residence. He had been in usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born July 18, 1940, at Hart County, Kentucky, a son of the late Ralph Cornelius Baumgardner Sr. and Rose Terry Bumgardner.
On June 30, 1973, he was united in marriage to the former Linda Jo White, who preceded him in death on March 4, 2023.
Left to cherish his memory is one son, Terry Baumgardner and wife, Cheryl, of Milton, West Virginia; two daughters, Rachael Baumgardner of Belington and Nancy Durrua of Onancock, Virginia; one brother, Randall Baumgardner of California; and one sister, C.C. Blaylock and husband, Gary, of Big Clifty, Kentucky.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ralph attended the schools of Kentucky. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran. After his service to our country, he was employed as a truck driver, lastly being employed with the Blue Diamond Trucking Company from which he retired. Ralph was a member of the American Legion Post 96 of Belington, where he served as the Post Commander for many years, and also served at the State level as the 1st District Commander. He was a Baptist by faith and had been attending the Stringtown U.M. Church near Belington. He enjoyed Civil War history and had participated in many reenactment events over the years. He was a loving father and grandfather, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Tuesday Jan. 16, 2024, from noon to 4 p.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Johnny Paul Williams officiating, military rites will also be accorded by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 96 of Belington. Per Ralph's request cremation will be honored and a private family ceremony will be held at a later date in the Lambert Chapel Cemetery near Belington.
