Rose Lee Shaffer Scalf

Rose Lee Shaffer Scalf, 85, a resident of Atwater, Ohio, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Traditions Health & Hospice.

She was born Sunday, Dec. 18, 1938, on the Shavers Fork Road at Kerens, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Ray Lee and Iva Byrd Shaffer.

On Oct. 26, 1956, she was married to David M. Scalf, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, David Allen Scalf and wife, Jodonna, and Douglas Lee Scalf and wife Jackie; and one daughter, Bev Dean and husband, Bart, all of Atwater, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Carl Lee Shaffer and Leo Shaffer; and two sisters, Velma Jean Barton, and Lois Shaffer.

Rose was a graduate of Tallmadge High School. She had worked at the Greyhound Bus Terminal but worked mostly in retail. She was a member of the Irons Chapel Church at Kerens and enjoyed helping her husband.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home, on Thursday at noon. The Rev. Justin Jones will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons Family Cemetery at Shavers Fork, Parsons, West Virginia.
