Samuel David Lawrence

Mr. Samuel David Lawrence, 78, a resident of Belington departed this life Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 23, 1945, a son of the late James Monroe and Goldie Marie (Pennington) Lawrence.

On Oct. 21, 1967, at Oakland, Maryland, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy Joan Vanscoy, who survives at their home in Belington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Harlen Neil Lawrence and wife, Debi, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Samuel Burton Lawrence of Belington and John Paul Lawrence and wife, Monica, of Elkins; one brother, Errol Keith Lawrence and wife, Martha, of Elkins; two sisters, Althea Judy of Elkins and Barbara Berry and husband, Bill, of Davis. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Misty Lawrence of Charleston; eight grandchildren, Crystal Beam, Patrick Lawrence, Trey Lawrence, Elizabeth Lawrence, Brooklyn Haller, Taylor Lawrence, Tyler Lawrence and Whitney Jones. Five great-grandchildren, Alicia Marie Morris, Travis Haller, Hailey Haller, Alexander David and Declan David; several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son. James David Lawrence; one daughter; LaDonna Marie Lawrence; four sisters. Lola Pennington, Maxine Roy, Gladys Roy and Charlotte Pennington; two brothers. James Lawrence Jr. and Loren Jackson Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence attended the school of Tucker County. He was previously employed with Memorial General Hospital, West Virginia Department of Highways and J&L Tire from which he retired.

Sam attended the Gospel Light Tabernacle in Elkins for many years, he enjoyed his church and loved his church family, he also had a great love for gospel music. Sam never met a stranger and he was always a true gentleman. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. On Wednesday Jan. 10, 2024, Mr. Lawrence will be moved to the Gospel Light Tabernacle, 79 Tabernacle Lane in Elkins, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon, the funeral hour at which time a funeral service will be conducted at the Gospel Light Tabernacle with the Rev A.H. Belt officiating. Interment will then follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Elkins.
