Cindy Sue Whetsell

WHETSELL

Cindy Sue Whetsell, 71, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She was born Oct. 15, 1952, at Cherry Grove, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Willie and Grethel Lambert Vandevander.

On March 25, 2006, in Elkins, she married Richard A. "Rick" Whetsell, who survives in Belington.

Also surviving is one son, Stephen Hiett of Belington; a stepson, Kenneth Whetsell of Fargo, North Dakota; a daughter, Tammy Cayton of Roper, North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Nicole Walsh of Fargo, North Dakota, and Grace Whetsell of Walla Walla, Washington.

Four brothers, Golden Vandevander, Norton, West Virginia, Allen Vandevander of Whitmer, West Virginia, Willis Vandevander of Brandy Wine, West Virginia, and Curtis Vandevander of Bloomville, Ohio; two sisters, Bonnie Mick of Cherry Grove, West Virginia, and Myrtle Bennett of Elkins; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding her in death in addition to her parents are two brothers, Jeffie Vandevander and Charlie Vandevander; and two sisters, Lena Vandevander and Minne Bennett. Cindy was a homemaker.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024. at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 16, from funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating.
