Clarice Lee Spessert

Clarice Lee Spessert, 77, a resident of Philippi, passed away Wednesday Feb. 14, 2024, in the Broaddus Hospital Emergency Room.

Clarice was born Aug. 7, 1946, in Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Forrest Lee McCauley and Marie Edith (Shaw) McCauley.

Clarice moved to Philippi 12 years ago and previously lived in Baltimore, Maryland, Albion, Michigan, and Greenville, North Carolina.

She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Elkins, WV. Clarice enjoyed camping, fishing, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She also crocheted, knitted, working puzzle books, Jigsaw puzzles, and paint by numbers.

Surviving are children, Charles Butch Corley Jr. and James Ray Corley; grandchildren, Melody Valentina Corley and Jordan Douglas Corley; one sister, Lula Mae Pingley; half-brother, Emery Joe Leary; half-sisters, Betty Leary and Marrian Leary; as well as many other nieces and cousins.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Marie McCauley; husbands, Alston Jay Spessert and Charles B. Corley Sr.; son, Allen Lee Corley; half-brother, Johnny Leary; and half-sister, Evelyn Virginia Leary.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory, 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 6-8 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 8 p.m., with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating.
