Doris G. See Wood, 91, a resident of Mingo, passed from this life Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at Nella's at Autumn Lake in Elkins and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
Doris was born Saturday, Dec. 10, 1932, in Valley Head, a daughter of the late Dorse and Ruth Channell See.
On Oct. 1, 1954, she was married to Donald D. Wood Sr., who preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1987, after 33 years of marriage.
Left to cherish Doris' memory are four children, Sandra Crites and husband, Butch, of The Villages, Florida, Donald D. Wood Jr. of Mill Creek, Rebecca Sperandio and husband, Gary, of Core, and Ronald Wood and wife, Jonda, of Mingo; one grandson, Cody Wood of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; one sister, Peggy Konitsney; one brother, Darrell See; her loving companion, Delford Sharp; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Doris in death besides her husband and parents were six brothers, James, George, Glenn, Neely and Franklin.
Doris was a 1951 graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. She had worked at Bata Shoe Company for four years, Silver Creek and Snowshoe as US Postmaster and Lift Ticket Sales for 14 years. She was a member of Woody Simmons Friends Band, and she established the Mingo Bands which performed at various reunions, homecomings and the Mill Creek Senior Center. She was a member of the Mingo Historical Society where she has served as treasurer for a time. Doris was also active in the Allegheny Mountain Wool Fair, the Upper Valley CEO's, having previously served as treasurer, and Huttonsville Rebekah Lodge 103, and was a Presbyterian by faith. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and playing various instruments.
A visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery in Mingo.
