Janice Louise Wamsley, 87, a resident of Valley Bend, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday morning, Febr. 14, 2024, at her home under the care of Mountain Hospice.
She was born April 3, 1936, at Bemis, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Hubert and Kathleen Cave Shreve.
On Aug. 3, 1953 in Elkins, she married Thomas "Andy" Wamsley, who survives at Valley Bend. Also surviving are three sons, Tom Wamsley and wifem Jane, Steve Wamsley and wifem Lisam and Marc Wamsley and wife, Amie; and one daughter, Cheri Shiflett and husband, Garry, all of Valley Bend. Four brothers, Richard, John and Marshall Shreve and Gary Townsend, all of Elyria, Ohio; three sisters, Mary Belle Heaton, Lucy Sims and Nora Shreve all of Elyria, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Andrea Wamsley-Barr and husband, Jeff of Bridgeport, West Virginia, Monica Driscoll and husband, Sean, of Centennial, Colorado; Tabitha Richardson and husband, Mark, of Mooresville, North Carolina; Jennifer King and husband, Scott, of Valley Bend, Garrett Shiflett and wife, Kayla, of Morgantown, Rece Wamsley and Morgan of Snowshoe, Tatum Wamsley of Morgantown, and Lydia Wamsley of Valley Bend; and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding her in death were one bother. Hubert "Wink' Shreve; and one granddaughter, Crystal Wamsley.
Janice had previously been employed at the Elkins Unemployment office and was once an aide at the Homestead School. She later was the co-owner along with daughter Cheri of C&J's Restaurant for 38 plus years prior to her retirement. Janice felt that feeding the people of the Valley to be her most important job. A job she loved.
She was a member of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church, the Thursday Early Birds Bowling League, Tygart Valley High School Athletic Boosters and a Club Leader of the Tygart Pioneer 4-H Club. Janice and Andy enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Elkins Promenader's Square Dance group for many years.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian L. Seders and Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. A private interment will be held at the Wamsley Family Cemetery at Valley Bend.
