Margaret Ann Barton Swisher, 84, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at home surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 64 years, Willard (Bill) Thomas Swisher; her children and children's spouses, Shelly and Robert Davis, Crystal and Michael White, Richard and Bridget Swisher, Dorsey (Owen) and Beverly Swisher; daughter in-law, Linda Swisher; her siblings, Delores Castleberry, Richard Barton and spouse, Milly; and her 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is proceeded in death by her son, Thomas Ray Swisher; infant daughter, Rhonda Swisher; and twin grandchildren, Micheal Edman and Megan Langley.
Margaret was born May 15, 1939, in Barbour County, to Leroy Barton and Mabel Barton of Philippi. Early in Margarets career she was a seamstress, however, most of her life she devoted herself to caring for others.
Margaret and Bill owned and operated several personal care homes in the Beverly and Elkins areas. She most recently was employed by All Care of WV LLC where she dedicated most of her time to others in need of her loving and nurturing character.
On Sept. 5, 1959, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Bill.
Margaret was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. She spent her free time sewing, coloring, needle point work, and crafting with her friends at the senior center in Elkins.
When she was younger, she spent her time doing frontier style living which includes shooting muzzleloaders, cooking and camping. She also enjoyed travelling when time allowed. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her.
Margaret's request for cremation will be honored and, there will be no services held; however, any donations you would like to contribute towards others in need would be greatly appreciated at All Care of WV LLC, 307 11th St, Elkins, WV.
