Mary Margaret (Browning) Poe

Mrs. Mary Margaret (Browning) Poe, 93, a resident of Belington, departed this life Wednesday evening, Jan. 31, 2024, at her home. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born Nov. 9, 1930, at Junior, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Wilbert and Anna L. "Boncie" (Channel) Browning.

On November 14, 1950 at Belington, she was united in marriage to Robert Hampton "Jake" Poe, who preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1999.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Wayne Preston Poe and wife, Linda, of Belington, and Ronald James "Ron" Poe, also of Belington; three daughters, Charlotte Jane Weaver of Philippi, Reta D. Butcher of Belington and Donna Jean Knapp and husband, Bill, of Belington.

Two brothers, Donald Browning and wife, Linda, of Belington, and Jerry Browning and wife, Jean, of Kingsville, West Virginia; two sisters, Carolyn Flanagan of Belington and Alice Black of Pasadena, Maryland; grandsons, Jason Talbott, Ronald "R.J." Poe and wife, Marcy, William "Willie" Poe and wife, Angel, Cody Poe and wife, Markita, Justin Weaver and wife, Jayme, and Nathan Music; granddaughters, Lisa Henline and husband, Rob, Becky Haynes and husband, David, Brittany Talbott and companion, Chris Mullan, Samantha Canfield and husband, Jeff, Sabrina Mayle and husband, Matt, Crystal Poe and Erin McKitrick and husband, Cory; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James "Jim" Browning and Glenn Browning; one sister, Nellie Bourne; son, Robert Blaine Poe, infant son Denver Poe; and two sons- in-law, Jackie Weaver and Robert "Bob" Butcher.

Mary attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1948. She was a member of the Talbott United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the Talbott Farm Women's Club where she served as secretary for many years. She loved flower gardening, quilting and embroidering, spoiling her grandchildren and cooking for her family on Sunday's. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg St. in Belington on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, from 4-9 p.m. and again on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, from 8-11 a.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating.

Interment will then follow in the Talbott Cemetery near Belington.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Talbott Cemetery in care of Wayne Talbott 6046 Talbott Road Belington, WV 26250.
