Max Lambert Elza

Max Lambert Elza, 87, years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.

Max was born Sept. 24, 1936, at Whitmer, West Virginia, a son of the late Carl Joseph Elza and Mary Ethel Gordon Elza.

On March 12, 1976 at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Sandra Jean Caplinger, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Michael Carl Elza and wife, Tonya, Kevin Max Elza and wife, Tammie, and Lee W. Sanders and wife, Becky; and one daughter, Theresa L. Ends and husband, Paul. Two brothers, Douglas Elza and wife, Linda, and Jeff Elza and wife, Tammy; four sisters, Phyllis Moore, Winifred Coon, Sharon Crossland, and Nancy Arbogast; eight grandchildren, Adam Elza, Michael C. Elza II, Elizabeth Roberts, Christopher Elza, Kari Simmons, Casey Leann Sanders, Alexa Sanders, and Ryan Sanders; and 11 great- grandchildren, Dominic, Sofia, Aleigh, Raiden, Colson, Austin, Brian, Ciarra, Ava, Eli and Onyx; several nieces, nephews and two very special friends, Becky Hammer and Dan Tice also survive.

Also preceding him in death was one son, Christopher Lynn Sanders; grandson, Justin Elza; granddaughter, Kassi Elza; brother, Norman Elza; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Arbogast and Alan Crossland.

Max was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1953. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army.

He worked for 55 years for Kelly Foundry and Machine Company of Elkins before retiring as a superintendent and vice president. He was a proud member of the Tygart Valley Lions Club.

At his request, Max will be cremated and a private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Tygart Valley Lions Club, 3154 Seneca Trail, Beverly, WV 26253 or the Randolph County Humane Society, P. O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241.
