Oden Lee Linger
LINGER
Oden Lee Linger, 92, of Buckhannon, passed suddenly on Feb. 2, 2024, at home.
He was born Feb. 24, 1931, on Three Lick Road of Upshur County, West Virginia, a son of the late Richard Lincoln Linger and Maude Virginia Linger. On June 5, 1947, he married the late Helen Irene Campbell. also of Three Lick Road in Upshur County. Irene is the daughter of Daniel “Elmer” Campbell and Janice Emma Lewis Campbell.
Surviving are four sons and a daughter, Roger Lee Linger and wife, Anna, of Sunderland Maryland, Steven Michael Linger and wife, Veronica, of French Creek, West Virginia, Richard Daniel Linger and wife, Mitzi, of Silver Spring, Maryland, William Oden Linger and wife, Barbara, of Elkins, West Virginia, and Debra O’Denise Linger Fullem and husband, Terry, of Edgewater, Maryland.
In addition to his wife, and parents, Oden was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew William Linger.
Oden was blessed with wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Oden worked for many years in the transportation and service industry, culminating his career as vice-president of Potomac Ford Truck, having received numerous awards for service and management excellence. After retirement, Oden took up his favorite hobby with a vocation as a barber. He owned two barber shops in Maryland and enjoyed this time of his life. Oden and Irene were also real estate agents and had shared fun in that venture together.
After yet another retirement, he and his wife, Irene, moved back to West Virginia to be close to their son, Bill, who was in bad health. Oden had fond memories of growing up in the Three Lick Road area. He learned so much from his grandparents and taught any who would listen valuable life lessons. He enjoyed visiting several churches where he had been invited to speak. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Oden was loved as a son, grandson, husband, father, grandfather (pappaw), uncle, and great-grandfather. Oden was the last of a generation in his family. He was proud of having lived longer than anyone in his family.
Friends will be received Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon beside the love of his life, Irene.
