Mrs. Paula Jean Thorn Booth, 78, a resident of Belington, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, 2024, in the WV Caring Hospice Facility at Elkins. Death was following a period of declining health.
She was born Jan. 10, 1946, at Parsons, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Paul Hennings and Alma Virginia Shomo Thorn.
On Dec. 19, 1965, at Belington, she was united in marriage to Clarence Junior Booth, who survives at their home in Belington.
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Christa Kay Huffman and husband, Gary, of Beaufort, South Carolina; and two grandchildren Brandon Marshall Duke and Clayton Wade Duke.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant sister, Virginia Sue Thorn; and mother-in-law, Opal Ware.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Paula attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1963. She attended Alderson Broaddus College, she also attended Gadsden Junior College, and received her Bachelor's degree from the Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. She was involved with the Sovereign Grace Baptist movement and was formerly employed at Davis Memorial Hospital as a caseworker, from which she retired.
Paula was very active in the Belington American Legion Auxiliary, where she held many offices including secretary and was a past president. She was active on the state level as well, and served as first department secretary, and first department president. She also served as a member of the board of directors for WV Girls State of the 9th district. Paula was a loving caring Christian and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Wade McGee officiating.
Interment will then follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.
