Pauline Irene Silvester Johnson, 91, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Saturday Feb. 3, 2024, at Davis Medical Center at Elkins, West Virginia.
She was born Sunday, April 3, 1932, at home in Coalton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Romeo and Marie DiBacco Silvester.
On Feb. 14, 1953, at Coalton, West Virginia, she was married to John Bernard Johnson, who preceded her in death Dec. 23, 2004.
Surviving are one son, Steve Johnson and wife, Pam; three daughters, Judy Taylor and husband, Mike, Debbie Smith and husband, David, and Donna Megert and husband, Donald; daughter-in-law, Shelia Johnson (Joe;, nine grandchildren, Jennifer Wotring and husband, Matt, Aaron Johnson and wife, Amanda, Jeremy Johnson and wife, Shannon, Christopher Johnson, Andy Johnson and wife, Jessica, Eric Megert and wife, Kelly, Mark Megert, Steven Johnson and Amanda White and husband, Chad; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition, Pauline is survived by brother-in-law, Hugh DeMotto (Magdalene); and sister- in-laws, Idia Silvester (Joseph) and (Helen “Midge” Silvester (Freddie).
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Bernard “Joe” Johnson and Mark Romeo Johnson; five brothers, Joseph William “Joe” Silvester, John Edward “Johnny” Silvester, Anthony F. Silvester, Vincent “Freddie” Silvester and one infant brother; and four sisters, Elizabeth Ann “Bay” May, Helen R. “Dolly” Silvester, Mary “Tootsie” Ferruso and Magdalene Joan “Maggie” DeMotto.
“Grandma Pauline” as she was affectionally known by both family, friends and strangers alike was especially known for her traditional “Sunday Spaghetti Dinner” that she had prepared for over half a century, nearly every Sunday of the year. In addition, if a family member was not there, you best have a good reason why you were not.
She was a graduate of Coalton High School and Clarksburg Business School.
She and her husband John B. owned and operated Johnson’s Upholstery for over 50 years, where she served as bookkeeper for the family business.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins, West Virginia, on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home, a wake service will be recited. On Feb. 7, 2024, Mrs. Johnson will be moved to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church at Elkins, West Virginia, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Father James E. O’Connor will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia.
