Raymond Vanpelt, 80, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at home surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
Raymond was born Saturday, July 24, 1943, in Elkins, a son of the late Wirt Vanpelt and Russie Taylor Vanpelt.
He was married to the former Amy Priscilla Mallow, who survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are three children, Ronald Vanpelt and companion, Kim Hamrick, of Elkins, Renee Taylor of Dailey and Rhonda Vanpelt and companion, Dustin Howell; nine grandchildren, Freddy, Brandon, Cody, Tyler, Timmy, Kaleb, Stephanie, Christopher and Anna Markley; two great-grandchildren, Leandra and Brooke; two sisters, Genevieve Higgins and Mary Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents, was one daughter, Rita Ann Vanpelt; and three siblings, Norma Fortney, Charles Vanpelt and Geraldine Fortney.
Raymond attended the schools of Randolph County and had been employed as a mill worker for Kitzmiller Lumber Company. He enjoyed the outdoors and would hunt, fish, playing horseshoes, and raising chickens. When he was inside, he enjoyed working puzzles.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, from 11 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour.
Interment will follow in Mouse Cemetery in Cravensdale.
