Steven Daniel "Dan" Snider, 66, a resident of Bowden, passed from this life Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
Dan was born Thursday, Sept. 5, 1957, in Fairmont, a son of George Anderson Snider and Martha Tucker Snider of Huntington. In June 2008, he married the former Charlotte Hertig, who survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are three stepchildren, Matthew Woodford and wife, Celena, Mason Woodford, and Elaine Woodford, all of Alpena; two sisters, Susan Houston and husband, George, of Huntington, and Sharon Snider of Vermont; five nieces, Rachel Houston and husband, Jeremy Ramsier, Emily Houston and husband, Scott Darrah, Claire Dewdney and husband, James, Leah Silverman and Stella Silverman; and four cousins, Charlie Tarleton and wife, Laura, Amy Tarleton and husband, Scott Wilmoth, Patrick Tarleton and wife, GiGi, and Kathryn Tarleton and husband, Paul Krawczyk.
Preceding him in death was one aunt, Mimi Tarleton; one cousin, Tim Tarleton; and life-long friend, Doug Stetham.
Dan graduated Barboursville High School. After high school, Dan built houses in Cabell County with Gary Morrison. He enjoyed working with Gary who was an important mentor in his life. While working with Gary, Dan attended a technical college for electronics. He was hired at IBM in Vermont as an electronics technician and then learned computer programming. His preferred programming language was C. After his retirement from IBM, Dan worked as programmer for Global Foundries. In his younger years, he loved mountain climbing. He enjoyed building, maintaining, and riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, and had a hobby that included radio controlled planes and cars.
Not only could Dan build gaming computers for his kids, but he also made his own grand finale fireworks to set off, the louder the boom, the better. He had an affection for cats and was known as the "cat whisperer." Music was very important to Dan, he listened to music to concentrate and destress.

Dan's request for cremation was honored and a celebration of life is being planned for a later date in Cabell County.
