Sumiko Izumi Elmore

ELMORE

Sumiko Izumi Elmore, 90, a resident of Coalton, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at the WV Caring Inpatient Unit in Elkins.

She was born Oct. 13, 1933, at Fukuoka, Japan.

On Dec. 22, 1958, in Yokohama, Japan, she was married to James Lee "Big Jim" Elmore, who preceded her in death, July 22, 2004.

She is survived by sons, Danney N. Elmore and David L. Elmore of Coalton, Timothy "Bunji" Elmore and wife, Tammy, of Norton, Michael R. Elmore and wife, Lisa Renee, of Belington and James A. Elmore and wife, Crystal, of Lewisburg, Ohio; and two daughters, Brenda L. Volentir and Mike Helmick of Coalton and Peggy G. Phillips and husband, Junior, of Coalton.

Two brothers, Takanori Izumi and Yoshinobu Izumi of Japan; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding her in death were one brother and five sisters.

Sumiko had worked as a waitress at the China Garden Restaurant for many years. Her family was her life and she loved every minute being with them. She attended the Shilo Baptist Church and Phillips Chapel Church.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 29, from the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WV Caring Hospice, P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 or Rowan Memorial Cemetery, C/O Thomas Flanagan, Mabie, WV 26278 in memory of Sumiko.
