Anita Ann Wooddell Hanifan, 66, a resident of Beverly, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday evening, March 7, 2024, at the WV Caring Hospice Center at Elkins, West Virginia, with her loving family at her side. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to lung cancer.
She was born Thursday, May 2, 1957, at Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Fredrick Lee "Fred" Wooddell and Shirley Jean Hinchman Wooddell.
She was previously married to Thomas Michael "Tom" Hanifan, who survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Rose Hanifan and family of Elkins, and Jenna Lea Gooden and husband, Jake, of Gilman; one brother, Michael Lee "Mike" Wooddell and significant other, Martha Lewis, of Faulkner Community, Elkins; one granddaughter, Rhylee Grace Gooden; three step-grandchildren, Makinna, Jack and Paisley; and one niece, Ashley Barrows of Elkins.
Preceding her in death are one brother, Fredrick Eugene "Gene" Wooddell.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1975. She had worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., from 1976 to 1978, had worked at Kmart from 1978 to 1984 and was a billing clerk at Davis Memorial Hospital from 1984 to 1991. She later worked as a legal secretary for Busch & Talbott from 1993 to 2002, was a resident hall director for Davis & Elkins College from 2013 to 2017, retired from Youth Health as a billing specialist in 2021, and after retirement she stayed busy as a Door-Dash delivery driver.
Anita was a hard worker and left an impression on her children.
In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and church league softball. Lately she has enjoyed working puzzles and more importantly spending time with her grandchildren and family.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2024. Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m.
Pastor Cindy Morgan-Roberts will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
