Brenda Jean Woodson Hermanson, 74, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Davis Medical Center. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected.
Brenda was born Monday, April 4, 1949, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Dorthy Smith Woodson Harris and Donald R. Woodson.
She grew up in Piscataway, New Jersey, attending Holmes Marshall Elementary, Quibbletown Junior High and Piscataway High School. Brenda also attended Livingston College of Rutgers University, Davis & Elkins College and Andover Newton Theological Seminary graduating with a Master of Arts in Religious Education.
She married Robert W. Hermanson in 1972 and both worked as house parents for troubled youth. She moved to Princeton, New Jersey, with her young family in 1979. Brenda was an active member of the Princeton Church of Christ and then Nassau Presbyterian Church during her time in Princeton. She worked at Princeton Theological Seminary's Speer Library for 26 years until her retirement in 2006. After retirement, Brenda moved to Elkins where she became a member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, taking part in the choir, Presbyterian Women and leading Sunday School classes. Throughout her life she loved music and singing, was an avid reader, and enjoyed cross-stitching creations for her family and friends.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Hermanson; her daughter, Johanna; her son, Hans and his wife, Chrisantha, and their two children, Katia and Aksel.
Brenda's request for cremation was honored.
A memorial service will be held at Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11 a.m.
At Brenda's request, memorial contributions could be made in her name to the Brenda J. Hermanson Scholarship Fund at Blue Ridge School to help support students with financial needs, 273 Mayo Drive, St. George, VA, 22935.
