David P. ‘Dave’ Burgess

David P. "Dave" Burgess, 82, a resident of Kelly Mountain Road, passed away Friday morning, March 1, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, and under the care of Mountain Hospice.

He was born April 29, 1941, at Sully, West Virginia, a son of the late John Wesley Burgess and the late Sylvia Marie Smith Burgess.

On May 30, 1964, at Keyser, West Virginia, he married Tylyn Ann "Ty" Huffman Burgess, who survives at Kelly Mountain.

Also surviving are two sons, Dwight Burgess and wife, Linda, Elkins, and Darrell Burgess and wife, Lacey, of Buckhannon; two daughters, Teresa Martin and husband, Rutland, of Sarasota, Florida, and Rebecca Judy and husband, Vince, of Elkins; one brother, Ken Burgess and wife, Sharon; two sisters, Sharon Teter of Elkins and Betty Scott and husband, Max, of London, Kentucky; a special brother-in-law, Roger Mullenax; special family friend, Mary Ann Kyle; special cousin, Charles Hedrick and family; grandchildren, John Burgess, James Martin, Meagan Simmons, Reese Martin, Kelsey Dean, Emily Martin, Brier Burgess, Ranger Burgess, Olivia and Kyler Davis; and great- grandchildren, Avaleigh Burgess and Weslee Dean.

Also preceding him in death were in-laws, Richard and Orlena Huffman; sister, Nancy Burgess Mann; infant brother, Richard Burgess; and special family friends, Mary Moore and Ed Kyle.

Dave was a veteran of the United States Army and was a self-employed Logger and owner of B&H Logging, Inc. prior to his retirement.

Dave was named "Logger of the Year" on two separate occasions. He also enjoyed farming and spending time with family and friends. Each of his grandchildren was very special to him and he treasured the time he spent with them watching them become young adults.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A vigil service will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Monday, from the funeral home chapel, by Rev. Mr. Raymond Godwin.

On Tuesday, March 5, he will be moved to Saint Brendan Catholic Church for a visitation from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, from the church, with Father James E. O'Connor and Rev. Mr. Raymond Godwin officiating.

Interment will follow in Saint Brendan Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Contributions may be made to Saint Brendan Church Building Fund, 181 Saint Brendan Drive, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Dave.
