Janice Ruth Flesher Taylor, 85, a resident of Elkins, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from Davis Medical Center with the love of her life, her seven daughters, and some extended family and friends by her side.
Janice was born Tuesday, June 7, 1938, in Elkins, a daughter of the late William Paul Flesher and Rita Marie Channell Flesher Westfall. On Oct. 7, 1955, in Elkins, she was married to Jimmy Lee Taylor who survives. They had celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Also left to cherish Janice's memory are seven daughters, Karen Taylor, Kathy Clingerman and husband, Steve, Elizabeth "Liz" Hare and husband, Keith, Linda Steffan and husband, Mike, Brenda Lawrence and husband, Norman, Jamie Coberly and husband, Sean, and Christina Phares; nine grandchildren, Melissa Steffan, Dwayne Lawrence and wife, Alicia, Aaron Lawrence and wife, Abby, Paige Harman and husband, Charlie, Brandon Nicholas, Brennan Elza and wife, Bethany, Kendra Johnson, Camie Tallman, and Nina Mae Coberly; nine great-grandchildren, Gemma Rose Liuzzi, McKinley Lawrence, Chloe Lawrence, Porter Harman, Quinn Harman, Emilia Elza and due any day, baby boy, Elza, Adalynn Lawrence and Hazel Lawrence; one brother, Gary Lynn Channell; two sisters, Patty White and Frances McCoy and husband, Cecil; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Janice in death besides her parents were her grandparents, Henry Clay Channell and Fanny Eckard Channell, who actually raised Janice; her brother, David Westfall; and her sister-in-law, Nellie Channell.
Janice went to Elkins High School. After raising her seven daughters, she worked outside of the home for several years as a cook and baker at Davis & Elkins College and various other local restaurants and bakeries.
She was a member of the Assembly of God in Elkins for several years, where she was very active in several ministries. She served as President of Women's Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and leader of the Missionettes girl's ministry. Later she was a member of the Elkins Family Worship Center where she was over the Greeters Ministry, Ladies Ministry and leader of the Senor Adult Ministry "Young at Heart." She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and a devoted servant of the Lord. She was also a seamstress, cook, cake decorator, and MD (mountain doctor). The strength she showed to the very end was a testament to a life of faith and trust in her God.
The family also wishes to express their appreciation to the physicians and staff at Davis Medical Center for their heart felt care and compassion.
A visitation will be held at Elkins Family Worship Center on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Bishop Jamie Estep, Pastor Norman Lawrence, and Pastor John Taylor will officiate, and interment will follow in Mouse Cemetery.
Janice had requested that her casket remain closed.
