Joanne Carol Daugherty Vaughan

VAUGHAN

Joanne Carol Daugherty Vaughan of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Feb. 19, 2024, at the age of 88.

She was born on July 28, 1935, in Cumberland, Maryland.

Joanne, known to her loved ones as "Jodie," was a brilliant and beautiful lady who spent her life showering others with her unbridled generosity and love.

Jodie attended Tygarts Valley High School in West Virginia, where she was salutatorian, cheerleader and band saxophonist. She attended Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, was a member of Pi Beta Phi and in 1998 received a B.A. in Humanities (magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) from Southern Methodist University.

Jodie loved the classroom environment and loved to raise her hand to pose a question or share her insights. She was also a devoted and hard-working homemaker who made a great life-long team with Joe, her beloved husband of 67 years, whom she met at a beach party in Virginia when she worked for NASA and Joe was an Air Force Officer.

Jodie had a deep and joyful life-long love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Dallas and Park Cities Baptist Church for many decades. She had a passion for traveling and hunting for antiques for her shop at Lovers Lane Antique Market. Jodie was an avid reader and became a superb short story author later in life. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing anywhere- in the choir, while taking a walk or just washing the dishes.

Moving to Texas upon her marriage at the age of 21, Jodie never forgot her West Virginia roots and for many years enjoyed her vacation home on 20 acres of beautiful farmland in the hills of her beloved West Virginia, delighting in hosting her visiting friends and family. Jodie was a wise, loving, and nurturing mother and grandmother to her three sons and four grandchildren, who all carry with them a blessed legacy of her devotion to them.

Jodie was that "best friend of friends" to an extraordinarily large constellation of friends and family because she had that rare heart: she truly cared about you, listened to you, earnestly prayed for you, and made you feel treasured. In short, Jodie loved you with her whole beautiful heart.

Jodie is survived by her loving husband, Joe Earl Vaughan; her three sons, James Bryan (and wife Kathy), David William (and wife Tracy) and Michael McCrary; grandchildren, Andrew, Daniel, Emma and Michelle; and brother, Carlton Neuben (and wife Linda).

She was preceded in death by her father, John Joseph Daugherty; mother, Edith Cline Neuben; and stepfather, Carl Neuben.

A Memorial service celebrating Jodie's life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Monie Chapel, Presbyterian Village North, 8600 Skyline Drive Dallas, TX 75243, Phone: (214) 355-9001, with a reception to follow.
