Margaret Grey (Evans) Darden Morfitt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and artist, passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was 92 years-old.
Born April 8, 1931, Grey was a graduate of Balboa High School, Panama, Sacramento State University and later earned a master's in nursing from UC San Francisco. She worked as a Department of Defense school nurse and teacher for 24 years in Germany and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Grey was a devoted wife to "Dee" Darden for 21 years, with whom she raised four children.
She is survived by her children, Jessy, Curt, Jody and Meg Darden; and grandchildren, Spencer and Jessy Allen.
After her children were raised, Grey married Donald James Morfitt and enjoyed more children, Dawn, Don Jr., Denise and Terry Morfitt.
For 41 years Grey and Don lived in Valley Head, in the mountains of West Virginia. Grey visited the property they bought in the winter of 1983.
She looked out the window of the cabin and said to herself, "This is where I'm supposed to be." She and Don lived and worked this property together until his death in 2017. During this time, Grey pursued her second career as a landscape watercolor artist. She sold many of her paintings to family, friends and people in her community.
Grey's life of love and compassion deeply impacted many and her zest for living as an independent and sometimes feisty spirit gave her a unique character all her own. She will be deeply missed.
