William Oden ‘Bill’ Linger

LINGER

William Oden "Bill" Linger passed on Feb. 28, 2024, after a long illness he fought so bravely.

Bill and his wife, Barbara Ann Storm Linger, resided in Elkins, West Virginia.

Bill was the youngest son of the late Oden Linger and Helen Irene Campbell Linger.

Bill was born on Jan. 20, 1957, in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

Bill and Barbara were married on Aug. 23, 2018, in Elkins, West Virginia, and she survives.

Preceding Bill in death are his mother, father and his first-born son, Matthew William, who died soon after birth.

Surviving sons are Melvin Lee "Lee", Mark Alan and Steven Cody "Cody".

Also surviving is Bill's precious granddaughter, Marie, Mark's daughter, who he talked about so much, and was the light of his life. Lee and Mark reside in Virginia and Cody in North Carolina.

Bill enjoyed sharing a birthday with his son, Lee, and his Grandma Campbell. Often joking with them to say it's your birthday, not mine.

Surviving also are his siblings, Roger and wife, Anna, of Sunderland, Maryland, Steve and wife, Veronica, of French Creek, West Virginia, Danny and wife, Mitzi, of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Debi and husband, Terry, of Edgewater, Maryland, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bill was always known for wearing a baseball or other sports cap, his abilities in gardening and fishing. Bill was the type of fisherman that would get his limit and you were lucky to get a bite. He prided himself on being a country boy, enjoyed the simple things in life, and his roots in West Virginia. Bill was an Iron Man to his family, having struggled with the debilitating disease of MS for over 30 years. Bill was a kind soul and would gladly lighten up a crowd with his sense of humor. He will greatly be missed by his family and friends.

Friends will be received Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at noon, with Bishop Steven Linger officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery in Buckhannon.
