Wilmoth Forest Cooper, 77, a resident of Harman, West Virginia, departed this life on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, with his loving family at his side. He had recently declined in health, but death was unexpected.
He was born Jan. 25, 1947 at Harman, West Virginia, a son of the late Burlin Forest Cooper and Gale D. Hedrick Cooper.
On Nov. 9, 1968, he married the former Sandra Jo Warner, who survives at home. Also left to cherish his memory is one son, Harris Wilmoth Cooper of Harman; one sister, Pat Lane of Harman; one brother-in-law, Carl Wilfong of Harman; and one sister-in-law, Sherry Cooper of Hanover, Pennsylvania. Several nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Sam Tassone, also survive.
Also preceding him in death besides his parents were siblings, Doreen Wilfong and Larry Cooper; father-in-law, Arlie Warner and mother-in-law, Vera Warner; and brothers-in-law, Lee Warner and John Lane.
Wilmoth attended the Harman School and earned his degree in criminal justice from Davis & Elkins College. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. Wilmoth had worked as a Randolph County deputy sheriff and as a bus driver for the Randolph County Schools until his retirement. He was also the owner of Cooper's Campground in Harman.
Growing up, Wilmoth attended the Harperton Sunday School and later attended other churches in the community. Wilmoth was an avid musician and was known for his extraordinary ability to play the fiddle. He enjoyed playing music at churches and family gatherings and taught many local musicians how to play.
Wilmoth also loved animals, especially his cats. He was a loving husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, P. O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 in Wilmoth's memory.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton, West Virginia. Pastor Shirley Bland will officiate. Interment will follow.
