Betty Margaret Irvine, daughter of the late Sterlie W. Stemple and Gretchen (Bennett) Stemple, departed this life on April 5, 2024, at 5:55 p.m. at Ruby Memorial Hospital in the presence of her cherished son and daughter-in-law.
Betty was born Oct. 20, 1937, in Belington, West Virginia, and on June 23, 1958, married Cornelius D. "Neil" Irvine to whom she was married for 63 years.
Together they shared one son, Chris Irvine, who was the joy of their life.
Betty and Neil spent several years traveling for the military before returning to Philippi to establish their permanent home. Betty was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed both football and basketball and as of late became an avid supporter of the Boston Celtics.
Betty's strength and warmth influenced so many lives that she became affectionately known to many as "Aunt Beck." She was a member of the Philippi United Methodist Church and a woman of great integrity, kindness, and faith who will be profoundly missed. In honor of Betty's request, cremation will be honored and a special Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on April 20, 2024, at the Philippi United Methodist Church.
A private inurnment will be held at the Mount Olive Cemetery at a later date.
