Charles Edwin Ranew

Charles Edwin Ranew, a resident of Valley Bend and lastly of Sparta, Georgia, passed from this life Oct. 5, 2021, in Macon, Georgia, surrounded by family.

Charlie was born on April 6, 1950, and was married to his wife Lynn Taylor for the last 27 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam and was wounded twice, receiving the Purple Heart with a gold star device. Charlie worked with the Postal Service for 35 years, where he retired.

He was also a member of The American Legion H.W. Daniels Post 29, where he served as a Past Commander, Marine Corps League Crow Detachment where he was a Past Commandant, VFW and Oddfellows.

Charlie and Lynn were members of the Valley Independent Baptist Church in Huttonsville when they resided in West Virginia and Island Creek Baptist Church in Georgia.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one biological son, David; and two adopted sons, Roy and Keith; a sister, Charlene; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charlie will be missed by many.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery at 1 p.m.

The Pastor Charles Stanley will officiate, and military honors will be rendered by members of the United States Marine Corps, the American Legion H.W. Daniels Post 29, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3647.
