Jake Sparks

Jake Sparks, 88, a resident of Beverly, went to be with his Lord and Savior and many family members on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Jake was born Monday, June 24, 1935, in Valley Head, a son of the late Arnold Sparks and Reba Ware Sparks.

On Sept. 23, 1958, in Valley Head, he married Helen Margaret Sterling Sparks, who preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2021.

Left to cherish Jake's memory are two children, Rodney Sparks and wife, Tiff, and Margaret Swecker and husband, Dave; two grandchildren, Jason Sparks and Robert Sparks; two great-grandchildren, Blaise Sparks and Ashlyn Sparks; and several extended family members.

Preceding Jake in death besides his parents and wife were his brothers, Ralph Sparks and Bill Sparks.

Jake attended the schools of Randolph County and had obtained his GED. He started working at Beth Steel Shipyard in Ohio for 65 cents an hour before he began his service with the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1957.

After his military service, Jake went to work in the coal mines. It was on May 8, 1982, that he accepted Jesus as his lord and savior and felt a call to preach. He pastored the Allegheny Wesleyan Church in Buckhannon for many years and later attended the Light of the Valley Tabernacle in Valley Head. His message to everyone remains, Jesus is coming back soon, be ready.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Simmons Cemetery in Valley Head. Rev. Denzil Arbogast will officiate, and interment will follow.

The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Jake Sparks.
