Martha "Carol" Smith Wolfe, 75, a resident of Gilman, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2024, at her home peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones.
She was a member of Orlena United Methodist Church, now known as Orlena Global Methodist Church.
Carol was born Sunday, May 9, 1948, in Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Bradford Carl Smith and Bernice Leigh Vanscoy Simmons and step daughter to Arley I. Simmons, who survives.
On Saturday June 26. 1970, she married the late Gerald Leslie Wolfe of Parsons, West Virginia, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Elkins, who preceded her in death July 23, 2019.
She was greeted in heaven by her husband, her mother and father, sister, Ellen "Delane" Riffle; and brother-in-law, Gerald Riffle; niece, Phyllis Johnson; great niece, Amanda Johnson; her brother, Michael A. Smith and sister-in-law Dixie Smith; her nephew, Scott Boyles; and sister, Linda Darlene Boyles, married to David Boyles who resides in Ohio.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Gary Lee Smith of Elkins; her sisters, June Ann Nixon married to Jay Nixon of Elkins, Barbara Lea Wiseman married to Gary Wiseman of Elkins, God daughter and niece, Leanna Cosner and fiance, Jim Manolidis; nieces and nephews, Todd and Emily Wiseman, Levi and Elizabeth Wiseman, Tabitha and Cody Cooper, David McCoy and girlfriend, Adrian Dix, along with several other nieces and nephews which include Micheal Collins, Charles B. Smith, Terry Smith, Jerry and Scott Smith, Carrie Woodell, David Simmons and Katelyn Toler; along with all their families plus 25 great nieces and great nephews. Her memory will live on through them.
Carol graduated from Elkins High School in 1966 and then went on to pursue her passion for nursing. She retired from Davis Memorial Hospital with over 30 years of service, but never retired from being a nurse. When asked what kind of nurse she was, her reply was always, "a good one". Along with nursing one of Carols greatest joys in life was caring for her many pets, those that she chose and those that chose her. She loved each and everyone. Carol was truly one of a kind and greatly impacted the lives of those around her. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The Rev. Paul Thompson will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
It was Carol's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of a donation to Randolph County Humane Society, P.O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241.
