Betty Zane Eskew Hill

Betty Zane Eskew Hill, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center surrounded by family.

Betty was born Friday, April 26, 1929, in Brounland. She was born fifth child out of ten to proud parents, George Washington and Martha Eskew. Knowing Betty would conquer anything she set her mind to, they named her after Revolutionary War heroine, Betty Zane.

She was a devoted wife to William Lakin Hill for 50 years before his passing in October of 2001.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Tellisa Byrd and husband, Bud, of Elkins, Stephen Hill and wife, Jackie, of Mill Creek, and David Hill of Marlinton; three siblings, Paul Eskew, Dora McCormick, and Janice Whitlock; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were five siblings, Delmer, Don, Ken, Virginia, Ruth and George.

Betty was a devout Christian. She graduated Valedictorian from Washington District High School. She worked at West Virigina State Capital for 20 years before she became a real estate broker and founded Hill and Valley Realty.

A true adventurer at heart, Betty had a deep love for the outdoors. She loved to fish, hunt, and garden. Above all else, Betty cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

May she rest in peace, forever fishing in the tranquil waters of heaven.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville. Interment will immediately follow.
