Gae Donna Hammer Green of Wilmington, North Carolina, and formerly of Fredricksburg and Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on April 25, 2024.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1942, at the 335th Army Air Force Base Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to the late Robert L and Rose V Hammer of Elkins, West Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel H Green Sr.; and her son, Robert McDuff Green; along with her brother, Robert Hammer of Elkins West Virginia.
Gae is survived by her pride and joy, her two sons and their spouses, Samuel H and Elizabeth B Green of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Andrew H and Jennifer L Green of Street, Maryland;.
Her grandchildren, Duff Green of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Matthew, Patrick, and Addison Green of Street, Maryland, were the "Sunshine of Her Life."
Her siblings include Jenneth (Rudy) Zimmermann of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Susannah (Bob) Higgins of Elkins, West Virginia.
Surviving nephews are Jason and Travis Zimmermann, Brant Hammer and John Higgins.
Gae was a 1964 graduate of West Virginia University and believed in the true Mountaineer Spirit of hard work, fair play and helping others.
She was an educator by profession and was known as a builder of programs and an advocate for children and higher learning. During her lifetime she was also active in numerous church, community and professional organizations.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Team for her care at Novant Health Zimmer Cancer Institute and the incredible staff and doctors at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center.
Private Burial to be held in Virginia.
