Helen Catherine Mills Corley, 89, of Mabie, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living in Elkins, West Virginia.
Helen was born on Jan. 29, 1935, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late V. Ray Mills and Stada Mills.
She was formerly married to James Corley, who preceded her in death.
Helen is survived by two children, Jerry Corley and Linda and Sandy Zirkle and Bill, all of Mabie.
Additionally, she is survived by five grandchildren, Billy Zirkle of Mabie, Jayme Garrett and husband, Jason, of Pipestem, Julie Poling and husband, Dwayne, of Belington, Katie Daniels and husband, Michael, of Mabie and Michael Corley and wife Andrea of Morgantown. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Liam, Baler, and Sawyer Zirkle, Kendyl Daniels, Rylee and Boone Garrett, and one great granddaughter on the way.
In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her stepfather, Howard Nay; sister, Loueda Lamb; brother, Wayne Mills; and special friend and classmate, Sue Tomblyn.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Mills of Buckhannon, several nieces and nephews and special friend, Nancy Erskine of Elkins.
Helen was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1952. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Corley Trucking for many years. She was an accomplished crafter, including knitting, crocheting, and quilting and exhibited her crafts for many years. She loved to garden. Helen was a member of the Rowan United Methodist Church in Mabie. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Mountain Memories Assisted Living.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Stella Faye Moyer officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie.
