James Tillison Martin Jr., 75, a resident of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, in the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
James was born Jan. 11, 1949, in Barbour County, a son of the late James Tillison and Joan (Lake) Martin.
James cherished Roann (Taylor) Martin as the love of his life, whom he married Aug. 26, 1989.
James retired as a coal miner after 43 years having worked for Bethlem Coal Company and several other mining companies over the 43 years.
James was currently employed with Putnam Aging in Hometown, West Virginia, where he cherished his time assisting the seniors.
James's memory will be cherished by the loved ones he left behind, his wife, Roann, and his daughter, Megan, had a special place in his heart, being the center of his world, furthermore, his grandson, Tillison, brought immeasurable pride and joy to his life, making their time together one of the happiest years he had ever experienced; stepsons, Todd McBee and wife, Sonia, and Mark McBee and wife, Susan; four step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Ann Carney, Mary Jo McBee and husband, Robert, Tom Martin and wife, Cindy, and Rick Martin and wife, Diane; also several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents James Tillison and Joan Martin; and his first wife, Norma Lee Martin.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m., with Rev. Tami Shoup officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
