Mary Ann Evans, 89, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at her home on Chenoweth Creek Road under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.
She was born Jan. 10, 1935, at Wymer, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Orval D. and Lorine "Katie" White.
On Sept. 28, 1963, at Akron, Ohio, she was married to Clarence "Gary" Evans, who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Gary Michael Evans and wife, Tanya, of Crestview, Florida; two brothers, O. Keith (Mary) White of Beverly and Arthur (Angie) White of Bowden; and two sisters, Ruby Phillips and Sarah (Hank) Woods, both of Elkins; two grandchildren, Caleb Michael Evans and Mya Elizabeth Evans; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Richard and Leonard White; and one sister, Edith Ray.
Mary was a graduate of Harman High School with the Class of 1952 and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Elkins Church of the Brethren. Mary enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling, and she devoted her life to her family.
She recently celebrated 60 years of marriage to her husband, Gary, and was especially proud of her grandchildren.
Mary rarely missed an episode of "All My Children." She was the best mother a son could ever hope for.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 26, 2024, from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins.
