Rosie Ann Sneberger Ketterman, a former resident of Pickens and Elkins, currently residing at Lavender Fields Assisted Living in Beverly, at the age of 99 years, six months and 21 days, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
Mrs. Ketterman was born on Oct. 17, 1924 near Pickens, West Virginia.
Rosie was the daughter of the late Mark and Polona Pavlas Sneberger.
Rosie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
On June 29, 1957, she married Cody Ketterman of Harman, who passed on Aug. 13, 2012.
Rosie's four brothers, Mark Sneberger, Anton Sneberger (Lena), John Sneberger (Marian) of the Pickens area and Joseph Marinic of Zagreb (Yugoslavia); and five sisters, Katie Winemiller (Bill), Vera Schneider (Max), Helen Sneberger of the Pickens area, and Olga Ball (Lynn) and Mary Waggoner (Percy, Ercil) of the Elkins area predeceased Rosie.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Rosie was a lifelong resident of the Pickens area. She graduated from Turkeybone School. She was a life member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosie was both a wife and a farmer. She partnered with her husband, Cody, sister Helen, and mother, in managing Sneberger Farms. The Farm won numerous farming awards and was honored with the title of Master Shepherd of West Virginia several times during the 1960s.
During this time Sneberger Farms held the world record for production of most lamb weight per ewe. They also raised Herford cattle and milk cows. Each year a bountiful garden was raised, much of the produce displayed at the community fair won prizes. Rosie loved animals. She always could be found with her dogs following as she completed her farm chores. Rosie also loved horses.
In days gone by she would act as the farm teamster, using horses to harvest hay and crops until utilization of tractors and modern machinery came to the farm. Then the horses became her beloved pets.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Pickens, West Virginia.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, from the church, with Father Ed Tetteh as the celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery near Pickens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV, 26241 in memory of Rosie.
