Sandra Sue Currence Hornick, 82, passed from this life Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Sue was born Thursday, Nov. 6, 1941, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Junior Hiram Currence and Elsie Irene Ware Currence.
On November 14, 1959, in Oakland Maryland, she married Wayne Willard Hornick, who survives at home.
Also left to cherish her memory is one daughter, Dixie Hornick of Beverly; one grandson, Jacob Hornick and wife, ManDi, of Beverly; siblings, Mike Currence and wife, Pam, of Elkins, and Marla Currence Pennington of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were two siblings, Jerry Currence and Janet Currence Stephens.
Sandra was a 1959 graduate of Elkins High School and had been employed as a child services specialist in Lakeland, Florida, and West Virginia. In her younger years, she enjoyed archery, fishing, and hunting; she was the first woman in West Virginia to kill a bear with a bow. Sandra enjoyed baking, crafting, sewing, and taking rides on the mountain with Wayne. Anyone that knows Sandra will miss her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Most important to Sandra was family and faith. At church, she loved assisting in the children's church and other youth ministries.
Sandra was a member of the Assembly of God and later attended Elkins Family Worship Center.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
The family extends their appreciation to the staff of Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for their care and compassion.
The family's request for cremation was honored.
A visitation with the family will be held at the Elkins Family Worship Center Saturday, May 4, 2024, from noon until 2 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted following the visitation. Jerry Ayers will officiate.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Sandra's name to either Mountain Hospice 1002 S. 1002 Crim Ave. Belington WV 26250 or West Virginia Caring 169 Diamond St. Elkins WV 26241.
