Jesse Carol "Cakie" Markley, 86, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Mountain Living Community in Belington under the care of Mountain Hospice.
Jesse was born Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1937, in Mill Creek, a son of the late William Jack Markley and Kathleen Parrack Markley.
On July 22, 1961, in Elkins, he married Carra Bell Higgins Markley, who preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2016. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Jesse is survived by four brothers, Preston Markley, Richard Markley, Charles "Butch" Markley and William Timothy Markley; and three sisters, Jaqueline "Jackie" Markley, Karen Sue Carras and Muzine "Dean" Derge, and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Jesse was preceded in death by a brother, Carson Markley; and two sisters, Linda Welch and Melanie Lindsey.
Jesse attended the schools of Randolph County and served with the U.S. Navy. He had worked as a union carpenter all of his working life.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had been attending the Parsons Church of God until his health prevented him.
Graveside services were held at Elkins Memorial Gardens on Friday, June 7, 2024, where members of H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion, Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the US Naval Honor Guard conducted full military honors.
The Randolph Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Jesse Carol "Cakie" Markley.
