Mary Elizabeth Wayland, 86, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday morning, June 2, 2024, at Mon Health Medical Center at Morgantown, West Virginia.
She was born Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1937, at Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Charles Hugh Wayland and Sylvia Florence Kerns Wayland. She had never married.
Surviving are several cousins and friends.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1955 and had worked as a telephone operator for over 40 years, having worked at Elkins, Clarksburg and finished in Alexandria, Virginia. She loved dogs and was a dog walker, enjoyed the Forest Festival and attending the events.
Mary enjoyed looking for bargains at thrift stores and Goodwill, loved attending the Cherry Blossom Festival at Washington, D.C. and visiting Mt. Vernon. Some of her favorite places to eat were Beefsteak Charlies in Alexandria, Virginia and anyplace that would have pizza.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road, Elkins, West Virginia. The Reverend Tim Turner will officiate and interment will follow.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org, the Humane Society of your choice or the Charity of your choice.
