Nancy Josephine (Toothman) Durst

DURST

Mrs. Nancy Josephine (Toothman) Durst, 96 a resident of the Teter Creek Community and more recently of Mansfield Place in Philippi, departed this life Sunday morning, June 2, 2024, in the Broaddus Hospital Emergency Department at Philippi. Death was following a short illness.

She was born Nov. 23, 1927, at Grant Town, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Arley R. and Rose B. (Cunningham) Toothman.

On Sept. 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Watson W. Durst, who preceded her in death in 1978.

On June 21, 2003, she was married to Charles E. Shaver, who also preceded her in death in Sept. 2003.

Left to cherish her memory are two children, Kenneth W. Durst and wife, Kathy, of Akron, Ohio, and Kevin E. Durst and wife, Suetta, of Belington, West Virginia; one sister, Mildred Greene of Fairview, West Virginia; three grandchildren, Kelley Skidmore and husband, Greg, Jaime Short and husband, Brian, and Amanda Crossman and husband, Andy; five great-grandchildren, Paige Skidmore, Zachary Short and wife, Madison, Molly Crossman, Lucas Crossman and Ethan Crossman; and two great-great-grandchildren, Sophia Hinchman and Thomas Jace Short.

Also surviving is her longtime friend and companion. Gene Stalnaker.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory E. Durst and David A. Durst; four brothers, Robert, Edwin, Arley and William Toothman; two sisters, Betty Grant and Adeline George; and one great-grandson, Braiden Short.

Mrs. Durst was a graduate of Fairview High School with the class of 1947. She was self-employed and was the owner of Nancy's Place at the Teter Creek Lake for many years. She was also a member of the Central Chapel Church and was a lifetime member of the Laurel Mountain Post 410 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to make blankets and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Thursday June 6, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. and again on Friday June 7, 2024, from 8-11 a.m., the funeral hour at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Burl Haddix officiating.

Interment will then follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery at Montrose.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Holy Pursuit's Dream Foundation 878 Hidden View Way, Morgantown, WV 26508.
