Woodward Trail, 77, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Fairmont hospital
He was born on May 9, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Woodward N. Trail and Jacqueline Trail. On Feb. 27, 1977, he was married to the former Joyce White, who survives in Elkins, West Virginia.
Also surviving is one son, Woodward Ray Trail and wife, Shelley, of Kingwood, West Virginia; one daughter, Wendy Marie Trail Thompson of Elkins; four grandchildren, Shelley Wilson Helmuth and husband, William, of Tennessee; Katlyn Wilson of Elkins, Maria Weese of Beckley and Jodeci Thompson of Elkins; and five great-grandchildren Liam, Karsen, Kasen, Ezekiel and Gabriel.
Proceeding him in death were two brothers, James Lee Trail and Kenneth Ray Trail; and one sister, Carol Sue Trail.
Surviving is two brothers, John Trail of Texas and Timothy Trail of South Carolina; one sister, Clarissa Bosley of Martinsburg, West Virginia; and several nephews and nieces. Those close to him were Matthew Trail, Kenneth Trail and Josh Trail of Elkins.
Woodward worked at many places as a truck driver, farm work and mill work. He loved hunting, fishing, backpacking, ramp digging, looking for ginseng and camping. He was an avid outdoors man, there wasn't anything he didn't know about fishing and loved to turkey hunt.
Woodward was a very private person that was closest to his wife, Joyce, who he kept busy baking up something for his sweet tooth.
The Randolph Funeral home in Valley Bend is in charge of cremation.
A special service will be held at a later date.
