Elwood James ‘Jim’ Isner

ISNER

Mr. Elwood James “Jim” Isner, 85, a resident of the Midway Road near Belington, and more recently of the Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center near Belington, departed this life late Thursday evening July 18, 2024, at the facility. Death was following a period of declining health.

He was born May 3, 1939 at Moatsville, West Virginia, a son of the late James Raymond “Buck” Isner and the former Elsie Blanche Haddix.

On March 11, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Karen Ovilda Corley, who preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2013.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Carolyn Sandy and husband, James, of Belington; and grandchildren, David Wayne Sandy, Tyler James Sandy, Alexis Ciara Lawrence, Colin Sandy, Greylan Charles Sandy and Emmalyn Karen Sandy.

Additional survivors include one great-grandson and five great-granddaughters.

Several close nieces and nephews and friends also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patty Isner Marsh and Colleen Corley; one brother, Robert Isner; and one grandchild, Callen William Sandy.

Mr. Isner attended the Schools of Barbour County. He was employed as a coal miner, working for the Badger Coal Mines from which he retired, and was a UMWA member.

He loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed spending his time woodworking and doing carpentry work. He cared deeply for his K-9 companions and loved to tell jokes that would make everyone laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Tuesday July 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating.

Cremation will follow and the interment of his cremains will be at a later date.
