James Denver ‘Jim’ Summerfield

SUMMERFIELD

James Denver ‘Jim” Summerfield, 69, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday, July 8, 2024, at Davis Medical Center in Elkins.

Jim was born Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1954, in Elkins, a son of Junior Denver Summerfield, who survives in Mill Creek, and the late Wanda W. “Betty” Lanham Summerfield.

On April 18, 1975, in Mill Creek, he married the former Diana J. Ferrell, who survives in Elkins. They had celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Also left to cherish Jim’s memory are two children, Bradley James Summerfield of Beverly and Amy Nicole Summerfield of Elkins; three brothers, Kenneth Summerfield and wife, Mary, of Blue Rock, Kelvin Summerfield and wife, Sherry, and Eric Summerfield and wife, Crystal, all of Mill Creek; two sisters, Marcy Wamsley and husband, Bayard, of Blue Rock, and Linda Shock and husband, Scott, of Helvetia; four grandchildren, Daniel Hamrick II, Ashton Powers and husband, Jack, Eva Summerfield and Kira Summerfield; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved Golden Retriever, Allie.

Jim was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1974. Jim had worked in the coal mines for 35 years.

He had been working for Murray Energy as a long wall electrician when he retired. Jim enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife, Diana.

He also was very involved as a volunteer for Babe Ruth Baseball and working as a groundskeeper at Bluegrass Field. He loved his family and spending time with them.

Visitation will be held at Summit Church in Elkins on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour.

Rev. Ron Phillips and Rev. Chris Lanham will officiate, and interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery.

The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for James Denver “Jim” Summerfield.
