John Hayward Vest Sr.

He was born June 27, 1951, at Belington, West Virginia, the son of the late Jacob Orville and Eugene Gibson Vest.

On Dec. 15, 1978, he was united in marriage to Debra Jane Westfall Vest, who preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2019.

He is survived by one son, John Hayward Vest Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Belington, West Virginia; three brothers, Jimmy Vest and wife, Freda, of Belington, Earl Vest and wife, Wanda, of Elkins, and Paul Thorne of Florida; and one sister, Misty Thorne of Ravenswood.

Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, John Vest III, Shania Vest, Nakia Vest, Cody Robinson, Tyler Robinson, Destiny Robinson and Austin Robinson.

Also surviving are several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a whole host of friends.

In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Kenny Vest.

John attended the schools of Barbour County and was last employed with McClean Sanitation. He loved to do mechanical work, cut firewood and mow grass.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 Brandenburg St. in Belington, on Wednesday July 10, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor David Canny officiating.

Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery near Belington.
