Rebecca Jae ‘Becky’ Baker Whiteman

Rebecca Jae “Becky” Baker Whiteman, 66, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She had been in declining health for the last year, however death was unexpected.
She was born Monday, Sept. 16, 1957, at Hagerstown, Maryland, a daughter of the late Robert Hall Baker and Joan Beverly Poe Baker.
On Jan. 6, 1980, at First Baptist Church in Elkins, West Virginia, she was married to Gary Edward Whiteman, who survives at Elkins, West Virginia. They had celebrated 44 years of marriage.
Also surviving is one son, Joel Thomas Whiteman and wife, Clemence Cretaux, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School, Davis & Elkins College and received her master’s degree from West Virginia University. She was an employee of the Randolph County Board of Education, where she worked as Principal of Valley Head Elementary, Coalton Elementary and Jennings Randolph Elementary School for approximately 30 years, retiring during 2014. It was her lifelong passion to work with and influence the lives of Randolph County children. Becky took pride in her very dedicated school staff.
She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended the Elkins Alliance Church. She and Gary also attended Pathways Church in Sevierville, Tennessee, and participated in their Life Group. She was very active with the 4-H, President of the Lioness Club for several years, a member of Patient Family Advisory Council of Davis Medical Center, member of the Woodman of the World Association and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a loving wife, mother and friend who will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins, West Virginia, on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On Friday evening at 6 p.m., from the funeral home, a memorial service will be conducted with Pastor Brice Payne and Rev. Brett M. Rinehart. Private inurnment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia.
