Ronald Clifton Brubaker

BRUBAKER

Ronald Clifton Brubaker, 95, passed away at Sterling Care Frostburg Village, Frostburg, Maryland, on July 7, 2024.

Born on Nov. 19, 1928, in Lititz, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Jacob Paul Brubaker and Ethel J. Crowther Brubaker.

He attended public schools in Lititz, Harrisburg and Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, graduating from Shippensburg High School in 1947. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1951. He was a proud member of the 56th Fighter Group at Selfridge Field, Michigan.

After his honorable service in the Air Force, Ron attended State Teachers College at Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. and graduated from State Teachers College at Indiana, Pennsylvania in 1955. He graduated from University of Maryland School of Law in 1961. Ron worked for insurance companies as a claims adjuster before entering the private practice of law in Cumberland, Maryland. Ron also served in the Maryland State Senate from 1967 to 1971, representing District 1-B.

He was a member of the Allegany County and Maryland State Bar Associations, Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Ali Ghan Temple, American Legion Post 13, Amvets Post No. 11, Air Force Sergeants Association, Air Force Association, Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Ron always maintained a healthy work-life balance and enjoyed owning a farm, raising cattle, horses, dogs and cats. He retired at the age of 63 and moved from Flintstone, Maryland, to Red Creek, West Virginia, where he was an avid skier until the age of 83. Ron was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davis, West Virginia, where he served several terms on the Church Council, was an usher, and assisted with many building projects.

Ron was preceded in death by his first wife, Reva (Hoback) Brubaker on Aug. 24, 1968; his parents and his sisters, Emma Lynch, Harriett Brubaker, Marian Brubaker and Cynthia Seby.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Susan McKenzie; six children, Clifton Brubaker of Flintstone, Susan Brubaker of Flintstone, Rebecca Cavanaugh and husband, Pat, of Williamsport, Maryland, Cynthia MacDonald and husband, Andrew, of Salisbury, Maryland, Drew Brubaker and wife, Alison Nussear, of Arthurdale, West Virginia, and Whitney Brubaker of Morgantown, West Virginia; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, Maryland, on July 11, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Rev. Ruth Bullwinkle officiating.

Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Baltimore Pike.
