George Dale Pitzer

PITZER

Mr. George Dale Pitzer, 95, a former resident of Moatsville, West Virginia, and more recently of Columbia, Kentucky, departed this life early Sunday morning, Aug. 18, 2024, at the home of his daughter, Peggy Haskiell.

He was born Jan. 19, 1929, at Moatsville, West Virginia, a son of the late Roy Lee and Mary Pearl Scott Pitzer.

On Dec. 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to Natalie Waugh “Doll” Pitzer, who preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2016.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Pitzer of Belington West Virginia, Peggy Haskiell with whom he made his home, of Columbia Kentucky; one son, Richard Dale Pitzer Shifflett of Montrose West Virginia; and one brother, Edward Arnold Pitzer and wife, Laura June Marks Pitzer, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Additional survivors include two grandchildren, Patricia Haskiell, Adam Haskiell and wife, Tracy; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Bailey, Luella Bailey, Dak Haskiell and Andrew Grant.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In Addition to his parents and spouse, he is preceded in death by one infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Pitzer; three brothers, Robert Neil Pitzer, Roy Ellis Pitzer and Delmas Lee Pitzer; and two sisters, Lois Gerladine Pitzer Majiros and Wanita Ruth Pitzer Wright.

Mr. Pitzer attended the schools of Barbour County and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked in maintenance for the Corps of Engineers, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.

While living in Kentucky he attended the Melson Ridge Baptist Church and was a member of Mt. Morris Community Church near Moatsville West Virginia.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 Brandenburg St, Belington WV 26250, on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, from 6-8 p.m.

Friends may also be received on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Morris Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 96 of Belington, West Virginia.
