Althea J. Judy, 94, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center in Elkins under the care of Mountain Hospice.
She was born July 4, 1930, a daughter of the late James M. and Goldie Pennington Lawrence.
On Jan. 27, 1947, at Oakland, Maryland, she was married to David “Dave” Judy, who preceded her in death July 18, 2010.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Judy of Parsons, West Virginia, Leland Judy and wife, Jan, of Gering, Nevada, and Rev. Anthony Judy and wife, Charlotte, of Elkins; one sister, Barbara Berry of Davis, West Virginia; and one brother, Errol Keith Lawrence and wife, Martha, of Elkins.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Also preceding her in death was one granddaughter, Pamela Judy; three brothers, Samuel Lawrence, James Lawrence Jr. and Loren Lawrence; and four sisters, Lola Pennington, Maxine Roy, Gladys Roy and Charlotte Pennington.
Althea attended the Lanesville schools and was a homemaker.
She was an active member of the Gospel Light Tabernacle of Elkins. She loved her church family and had a great love for gospel music.
She was also active in Women’s Ministries for many years. Althea led the church choir for years as well as playing the guitar. She had a beautiful voice and everyone loved to hear her sing.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor A. H. Belt officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hady Cemetery on the Lanesville Road beside the Bethel Church of the Brethren.
